Intermediate (B1) English: Speak with Confidence and Clarity

Reaching the Intermediate (B1) English level marks an exciting stage in your language journey. At this level, you are no longer limited to simple conversations—you can share opinions, describe experiences, and understand everyday discussions with much greater ease.

At Eton Institute, our English language courses follow international CEFR standards, ensuring that every learner builds step-by-step toward real-world fluency. The Intermediate program is divided into B1.1, B1.2, and B1.3, each designed to expand vocabulary, refine grammar, and boost communication skills.

B1.1: Expressing Opinions and Everyday Experiences

In B1.1, learners focus on speaking more naturally and building confidence in sharing facts and opinions.

Key outcomes include:

  • Describing people, personalities, and relationships.

  • Using compound adjectives and -ed / -ing adjectives to express emotions.

  • Writing both formal and informal emails and letters.

  • Practicing active and passive voice in everyday communication.

  • Learning to make small talk, sound polite, and engage in social expressions.

This stage helps learners go beyond basic descriptions and engage in meaningful conversations about family, work, and daily life

B1.2: Exploring Ideas and Building Conversations

At the B1.2 stage, learners expand into more abstract and practical topics such as philosophy, friendship, exploration, and energy.

By the end of this level, you will be able to:

  • Use modal verbs for advice, permission, and obligation.

  • Communicate about life experiences using the present perfect tense.

  • Write discursive essays, weighing pros and cons.

  • Build vocabulary through prefixes, suffixes, and idioms.

  • Make arrangements and talk confidently about future possibilities with will, going to, may, might, and could.

This level builds your ability to express opinions, debate ideas, and manage everyday and professional conversations

B1.3: Real-Life Communication and Storytelling

The B1.3 stage prepares learners for more complex conversations and practical communication in personal, professional, and social contexts.

Learners will:

  • Master conditionals for expressing possibilities and regrets.

  • Use reported speech in statements, questions, and requests.

  • Discuss money, work, journeys, and inspiring people.

  • Express attitudes and emotions with phrasal verbs and clichés.

  • Write biographies, tell stories, and use indirect questions politely.

This stage allows learners to communicate naturally and confidently in diverse situations, from everyday conversations to professional discussions
