Elementary (A2) English: Building Confidence in Everyday Communication
Learning English at the Elementary (A2) level is an important step toward becoming an independent speaker. At this stage, learners move beyond the basics and start to communicate more confidently in real-life situations—whether it’s at work, while traveling, or in social settings.
At Eton Institute, our English language courses follow international CEFR standards, ensuring your progress matches global benchmarks. The Elementary program is divided into three stages—A2.1, A2.2, and A2.3—with each level designed to gradually build your vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills.
A2.1: Everyday Conversations and Foundations
In A2.1, learners practice the essentials of English communication by focusing on topics related to family, work, and daily routines.
By the end of this stage, you will be able to:
Introduce yourself and engage in everyday English conversations.
Use the verb “to be”, possessive adjectives, and common expressions.
Talk about jobs, family, and friends with the present simple tense.
Express likes, dislikes, and hobbies using -ing forms.
Describe your home, workplace, and surroundings using prepositions of place.
This stage builds confidence in expressing personal details and engaging in short conversations—an essential foundation for real-world communication.
A2.2: Talking About the Past and Sharing Experiences
In A2.2, learners expand their ability to communicate about life experiences, past events, and special occasions.
Key outcomes include:
Writing short biographies and formal/informal emails.
Talking about past experiences using the past simple tense.
Expressing feelings with -ed and -ing adjectives.
Using countable and uncountable nouns for food, shopping, and daily needs.
Building stories with time expressions and describing memories.
This level strengthens your storytelling ability and helps you speak more naturally in social and professional settings
A2.3: Expanding to Real-Life Situations and Travel
At the A2.3 stage, learners advance their communication to cover everyday and global topics like city life, travel, holidays, and personal experiences.
By the end of this level, you will be able to:
Use comparative and superlative adjectives to describe places and experiences.
Talk about current events using the present continuous tense.
Make suggestions and plans with “going to” for future intentions.
Express experiences with the present perfect tense (e.g., “Have you ever…?”).
Confidently discuss travel, transport, appearances, and people.
This level prepares you to engage in more complex conversations, ask and answer questions clearly, and navigate real-life situations like travel and daily interactions
