23 Jul Learner Spotlight: Nasim Darya
Our English language student Nasim Darya shares her experience learning at Eton Institute. Here’s a snippet of her life, interests and why she chose to learn English.
Hi! My name is Nasim and I’m from Iran. I moved to Dubai after finishing high school and I’ve been living here with my sister since 2017. I usually spend part of the year back home when the weather gets warmer.
I’m very passionate about music and arts since childhood. In my free time, I love to sing, play the piano, write songs, paint and read books. I started off with playing the xylophone and flute when I was a child and later on during secondary school I learned how to play the piano (I’ve been playing it for 5 years now!). I was also doing singing sessions at the same time along with the piano classes. After that, I took guitar lessons and singing classes for a few months prior to traveling to Dubai.
At the age of 20, I reached one of my dreams and performed a song live on stage in Iran!
My English Language Learning Journey
I’ve started learning English when I was about 10 years old and I was also learning it at school. One of the main reasons why I moved to Dubai is because I wanted to improve my English language skills (especially speaking). Also, because I want to take the IELTS exam as I’m planning to finish my University studies. When I arrived in Dubai, I searched for accredited institutes that offer English courses and came across Eton Institute. I started at upper intermediate and successfully finished all the way to the advanced level.
Ever since it’s been a wonderful experience, the staff are very friendly and helpful and I’ve made new international friends (exactly what I was aiming for!). My grammar and speaking skills have drastically improved; I understand phrases and idioms. Lastly, I can now understand English songs and movies better – and of course, sing along to songs!
I’m pleased to have the opportunity to speak English every day to people of different backgrounds and to learn more about their cultures.
