Do get into the charitable spirit by donating to Ramadan camps, care packages and other campaigns.
Do try and avoid the roads during “Iftar†time as people who are fasting are most likely to travel at this time to get home or to the nearest mosque for prayers and “Iftarâ€
Do show your respect towards those who are fasting, and check if someone is abstaining before offering food.
Do be mindful and consider whether you have Muslim friends who are fasting on your Facebook or Twitter network before using strong language or sharing images that could be deemed revealing.
Do take a gift or dates for your host if you are invited by Muslim friends to share an “Iftar†meal.
Don’ts:
Don’t eat, drink, chew gum or smoke in public during the Holy Month. If you work in an office, set up a designated, closed-off area for non-Muslims to eat and drink discreetly.
Don’t wear revealing or tight clothes during the month of Ramadan and dress conservatively when in public.
Don’t play loud music as it may offend those who are fasting.
Don’t get into debates or arguments, or pick fights – it is the month of peace and serenity. Also avoid swearing in public, which is frowned upon at the best of times, but particularly offensive during Ramadan.
Don’t leave dinner reservations until the last minute. Restaurants across Dubai can become much busier as families meet to break the fast together.

This June, we raised our hands together to support three organizations for the tireless work they do to educate children and make their lives richer.
Staff and volunteers from Eton Institute had the privilege to visit The Al Noor Training Center and Latifa Hospital in Dubai, and the Special Care Center in Abu Dhabi, where they conducted educational activities and delivered gifts for the children. Over 200 toys were generously donated by The Toy Store and our community of staff and students to bring smiles to little ones.
We are still accepting donations for Save the Children as part of our June initiative. Those interested in being part of the change are welcome to donate.
Eton Institute’s free Ramadan App provides you access to all the necessary information about the holy month at the tip of your fingers, a mobile application that serves as a guide to both local and expat communities.
The app contains essential information for those observing the fast, with features such as Prayer and Iftar timings, Qibla direction, a Mosque locator and healthy tips to consider while fasting.
For people who are experiencing Ramadan for the first time in the Middle East, this resourceful app also includes practical information, such as cultural tips, daily Arabic phrases, glossary of terms and the do’s and don’ts specific to the holy month.
In the 21st century it is essential to teach children about different cultures of the world and also increase their global awareness. What better way to do that than learning a new language?
Eton is offering something fun this summer for all the kids out there. A language course combined with a little creative extra is what you will get when you register your kids for any of our seven popular languages, including Arabic, English, French, Italian, German, Russian and Spanish. Combine language learning with a fun Arts and Crafts course for your 5 – 11year olds and combine language learning with an iPad/iPhone apps development course, for your 12 – 16 year olds.
The next batch of courses are scheduled to start on 6th of July 2014.
‘Summer for Change’ Charitable Initiative Focuses on Fighting Poverty this Month
Eton Institute has dedicated this summer to start the chain of change, with its ‘Summer for Change’ campaign. Through international donations and locally based awareness activities championed by its own staff, Eton Institute will strive to bring some very noble causes into the spotlight and give them the attention they deserve.
July is dedicated to children’s education and Eton Institute is supporting the charity Care International. Online donations can be made to the charity through our website.
The local charitable activities for July include distributing Essential Care Packages for the needy in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and a special Iftar Organized for Labourers in Dubai.
A special thanks to all those who have generously contributed and are still contributing to our Care Packages. We would also like to thank all those who have donated to this cause.
You too can be part of the change, by donating items for the Care Packages at Eton Institute before the 6th of July or donating online to Care International.
